Lady Mountaineer Basketball
Code of Conduct
I, as a representative of the Basketball Program, agree to follow and abide by the following program rules, team rules, and parent rules code of conduct. I understand that there are penalties if these Codes of Conduct are abused in any way. These rules are to reinforce team discipline, to always display excellence in appearance and conduct, and to teach me as a player to have a more competitive and respectful outlook of the game of basketball.
PROGRAM/TEAM RULES:
1. All practices, games and tournaments are mandatory.
2. It is imperative to be at practice on time. Players need to be on the court dressed and ready to practice at the designated time.
3. Players must be at the gym 15 minutes before their scheduled practice time to stretch and pre-practice. TAKE STRETCHING SERIOUSLY!
4. Enter the gym with basketball attitudes. Leave the socializing out until after practice.
5. Inappropriate and disrespectful words should not be used when answering to any coach, teammate or parent. Also refrain from saying words such as: suck, stupid, shut up and I can’t.
6. What coaches say goes. Players are expected to follow without back talk. Coaches are expected to act with moderation.
7. Each player is expected to hustle to/from the court during substitutions/time-outs/etc.
8. When coaches are speaking, players are to listen and give eye contact.
9. Players are to hustle shagging balls and in between drills – no one walks.
10. No leaning on the walls or sitting down during drills and water breaks.
11. Players are expected to run hard in the beginning, during, and at the end of every practice.
12. Players are to care for facilities and equipment. All coaches and players are to make sure their court is clean before leaving the gym and all balls must be accounted for.
13. Players are responsible to call coach or representative when unable to attend practice. (Unexcused absence – 10 “10 in 1’s”)
14. Behavior problems will not be tolerated! If the player’s behavior continues and is not willing to change, that may result in dismissal from the team. All players will show team spirit and sportsmanship at all times. Conduct yourself in a respectful manner as a POSITIVE representative of The Program.
15. Every player is to earn his playing position and court time on his own. Players may be in various different positions from what he is accustomed to. Great players will adjust. Playing time is based on attitude, effort, hard work, attendance, skill and performances at practices and games. Parents are not to approach coaches on player’s positions or court time (that is the responsibility of the player). Parents are not to earn player’s positions or playing time; the player must earn it! If a player has been mistreated a parent conference should be scheduled with the entire coaching staff and an administrator.
16. All team players must understand team concept and their role as a team player.
17. All players must be committed to academics by maintaining satisfactory grades. A player cannot play basketball without good grades.
PLAYER CODE:
1. I will show respect towards my teammates, coaches, school officials, parents and teachers.
2. I will refrain from the use of foul language and unsportsmanlike body gestures/conduct towards anyone, especially opponents. I realize that my actions reflect on my teammates, coaches, parents and school.
3. I understand the team concept and my positive role is important to that concept.
4. I understand that academics are vital and they are my number one priority in school. I will maintain, at least, a 2.0 GPA or be subject to suspension from games until I reach that goal. (Tutoring is available to you)
5. I will donate at least 5 hours of community/school service.
6. I will wear proper attire on game day to and from school, as well as games/tournaments at the Coaches discretion.
7. I understand that the High School Citizenship contract applies at all times (alcohol, tobacco and drugs). Any breech of such contract will result in the recommended discipline, plus I am subject to additional suspension from this basketball team.
8. I understand The Pyramid and will apply them when I am on and off of the court.
